Beginning Works / 2011
|
These three pieces initiated my video work at UCSD. Though they are fairly short, looking back on them, I've found that they established the concepts I work with now including self-image, gender, ritual and consumerism.
Application / 2011
Application is a take on how makeup is used as a costume to the face in which multiple forms of identities and bodies may arise and that even though the person applying may feel the same, they portray themselves differently and thus viewers perceive them differently. There is also a whole different culture when it comes to the application of makeup intimate among the lives of young girls and women, something that has been very foreign and incomprehensible to Li as a female. What's on your mind? / 2011
What's on your mind? is Facebook in live action, an experiment to see how people would respond to the infamous question the social media website asks to get a personal status update. This was filmed on Library Walk at UCSD, a crowded arena and pathway for advertising and daily student life. Shot with Sony Mini-DV. Edited on Final Cut Pro 7. |
Blank Fliers / 2011
Although the piece is entitled Blank Fliers as it exists online, the video was never meant to have a title in order to emphasize the blank experimental advertisement. Everyday, students hand out fliers hoping to attract more members to their org on Library Walk at UCSD. At the same time, many students and people who walk through the pathway to the library hold no interest. This site-specific video means to emphasize the two perspectives. Shot with Sony PD170.
