Cleaning Tools / 2013
This video was created as part of an installation at one of my exhibits, RERUN.
Cleaning Tools is a take on the culturally mundane ritual of brushing teeth, pointing out how erotically disgusting it is to clean a mouth. This is emphasized through the editing and layered sound.
As an installation at RERUN, the video works as a center-piece in the bathroom of the exhibited household, looping erotic gestures and brushing sounds to fill the space of the narrow Bathroom Shrine. An old portable television was used to display the video. Its drilling low quality sound emphasized the drilling and brushing of the teeth in the video, and its small screen both repulsed and drew in the viewer inside the sacred bathroom.
